SHRINKAGE LIMIT TEST SET

Shrinkage Limit is the maximum water content at which a reduction in water content does not cause an appreciable reduction in volume of the soil mass. At shrinkage limit, on further reduction in water, air enters into the voids of soils and thus keeps the volume constant. The apparatus can be used to determine shrinkage limit and to calculate other shrinkage factors like shrinkage ratio, shrinkage index and volumetric shrinkage.

CENTRIFUGE EXTRACTOR TEST SET

Percobaan ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui kadar aspal dalam campuran atau dalam aspal buton dengan cara penguaraian sentrifuge.
Tempatkan mesin Centrifuge Extractor pada tempat yang aman dan berventilasi baik.
Lepaskan lem pengencang dan buka tutup container dengan hati – hati, lalu buka mur penjepit tutup bowl / mangkok kemudian angkat bowl / mangkok bersama –sama dengan tutup bowl / mangkok dan bersihkan mangkok dari kotoran yang menempel.
Tentukan kadar air benda uji.
Timbang 1000-1500 gram benda uji lalu masukkan kedalam bowl/mangkok .
Tuangkan trichloroethylene 1,1,1 – trichloroethene atau benzene sampai merendam benda uji, biarkan beberapa saat untuk bercampur ( maksimum 1 jam).
Pasang mangkok berisi benda uji tadi kedalam container keringkan dan timbanglah kertas saringnya lalu pasang diatas mangkok kemudian pasang tutup mangkok lalu kencangkan mur pengunci kemudian pasang tutup container dan siapkan penampung dibawah lobang pengeluaran.
Putar engkol perlahan – lahan makin lama makin cepat sampai kecepatan 3600 RPM, atau sampai bahan pelarut keluar melalui lubang pengeluaran. Hentikan pengeluaran lalu tambahkan 200 ml bahan pelarut (minimal 3 kali) samapai ekstrak yang keluar dari lubang pengeluaran berwarna muda. Kumpulkan ekstrak tadi kedalam gelas ukur.
Buka klem pengencang lalu buka tutup container kemudian buka mur pengunci dan angkat tutup mangkok, lepaskan kertas saringan dari mangkok lalu keringkan diudara. Kumpulkan sebanyak mungkin mineral yang menempel pada saringan lalu tambahkan kedalam mangkok. Masukkan saringan tersebut kedalam oven pada suhu 110ºC sampai masanya tetap.
Keringkan isi mangkok dengan cara :
Bila menggunakan benzene sebagai bahan pelarut, keringkan dalam bak uap selama 30 menit lalu keringkan dalam oven/plat pemanas pada suhu 110ºC.
Bila menggunkan trichloroethylene atau 1,1,1 trichloroethane,keringkan langsung dalam oven/plat pemanas.
Catat volume ekstrak dalam gelas ukur, kocok 100 ml kedalam cawan pemanas yang telah ditimbang sebelumnya. Uapkan pada bak uap lalu bakar residu yang ada sampai membara (500 – 600ºC) kemudian dinginkan.
Tambahkan larutan jenuh ammonium karbonat (NH4)2 CO3 sebanyak 5 ml/gram abu dalam mangkok.
Keringkan dalam oven pada suhu 110ºC sampai masanya tetap. Dinginkan dalam desicator lalu timbang.
